Product Description

With Thor, the one-eyed Odin (or Woden) is considered the highest-ranking god in the Norse sagas. He was the father of the gods and of humanity, riding his eight-legged horse, Sleipner. Accompanied by his bearers of knowledge, the two ravens Hugin and Munin, he was the undisputed ruler of Valhala. The NL2 Odin is a powerful and adaptable knife with its VG10 laminated steel blade. The cutting action is excellent and the knife doesn’t feel clumsy at all. When it comes to the Northern Light Series, nothing has been spared to make the knife as tough, beautiful and comfortable as possible. The knife is a pleasure to look at and a thrill to use.

The blade is made from VG10 laminated steel , where the edge is made from our now renamed VG10 steel and the sides consist of tough 420J2 stainless steel. This combination is good because it combines all conceivable and desirable properties such as resilience, torque resistance and edge durability in a single blade. A 6.5 mm thick blade on its own would be strong enough for most tasks – with lamination technology, you can expect an additional 20% strength in the form of bending resistance compared to an ordinary VG10 blade.

The handle is made from specially selected cowhide: unfortunately, a material generally ignored by manufacturers, but which provides a firm and robust grip. It ages beautifully and, as the years go by, acquires an attractive brown patina, and is insensitive to oil and solvents and impervious to water. Dryness can cause small cracks in the handle, but these disappear when the knife is used again.

We persisted with the convex edge, as we consider this to be the ultimate combination of cutting performance and edge strength, and of course our NL2 Odin knife delivers this. Anyone who knows anything about knife making knows that such an edge can only be made by hand, which is why 99.99% of all knives do not have this type of edge. Knives in general are, of course, mass-produced, where CNC (Computer Numerical Control) robots and grinders shape the blades in the best possible way. The machines are loaded with stacks of blades so that production can continue around the clock and the result is often really good – good knives at affordable prices. However, if you want top quality strength, corrosion resistance, edge durability and design, the machine is not made to even come close to the craftsmanship of a trained and skilled blacksmith. We are therefore very proud to be able to present our Northern Light Series, aware that only the most quality-conscious will appreciate its attributes.

The sheath is made of high-quality black leather.
